About Miho Simunovic
Miho Simunovic found inspiration in the world around him, in the sun and shadows, the changing light, and the quiet character of a place. His love of watercolor began among the Adriatic Islands, where the sea and landscape became an enduring part of his artistic life. Later, the streets of Palo Alto and the wider Bay Area offered a different but equally compelling source of inspiration.
His seascapes capture the quiet, pensive mood of the coast, while his landscapes reflect the varied beauty of the California countryside. He was equally drawn to the bustle and changing atmosphere of the city, painting the streets of Palo Alto, San Francisco, and the Stanford University campus, whose buildings and stonework reminded him of Europe. His goal was
never simply to record a scene, but to capture its atmosphere and mood, the particular depth, shadow, and light of a moment. He painted in watercolor because it demanded that every color and shade be considered before the brush touched the paper. A painting could preserve a feeling, a place, and a moment in time before the light changed and it disappeared.
